Welcome Blair Elizabeth

Blair Elizabeth was born on November 24, 2012 at 8:58 am. She weighed 6 pounds 13 ounces and was 20 1/2 inches long. She came out with a full head of dark brown hair and has long fingers and toes. We are all in love with her, including Halle who has been such a sweet big sister! (And, congrats to Cassi who guessed her birth date and was pretty close to her weight too!)

The Story: We had a c-section scheduled for Nov. 26th and we all just assumed that I would go in and have her that morning (even though we were hoping she would come a few days early!). However, in the evening on Friday, Nov. 23rd after having gone out to Applebees for dinner with my parents, I started having some contractions. I don't remember the contractions I had with Halle so I was a little surprised by them. After not thinking anything about them, I started timing them and realized they were fairly consistent - about 6-7 minutes apart. So, I decided I better pack a bag and get ready just in case.

Over the next couple of hours they started coming every 4-5 minutes and since I knew I wanted a c-section anyways, I didn't feel like I needed to experience the whole labor thing. So, we went in to the hospital around 12/1am. When we arrived, they checked me and I was only a 1. This was basically like a first time labor for me considering my experience with Halle was way different. So, we walked the hallways of Methodist and Mayo for an hour, hoping that I would make some progress so that they could do the c-section. However, much to my dismay, they checked me again and there was no progress. So, they sent us home which I was really bummed about. I thought that if I was going to have a c-section anyway they might as well just do it but after Brandon talked me down, I realized that it was best not to have a c-section in the middle of the night.

We came back home for a few hours but I wasn't able to sleep and my contractions were 3-4 minutes apart and I was having back labor which was quite painful. We headed back in around 6am and when they checked me, I was only a 2...yes, you can call me a wimp! I had no idea how low of a pain threshold I have until they told me that news! But, since the day staff was coming in, they decided to just go ahead and do the c-section at 8am. I continued to labor while waiting for everything to get ready for the c-section. Everything went really well, despite the multiple attempts at getting the spinal and Blair was born that morning at 8:58 am. She came out perfectly healthy - kicking and screaming and weighed 6 lbs. 13 oz. and was 20 1/2 inches!

Brandon was such an amazing husband throughout the whole experience and though I was in pain, I was kind of glad I was able to experience a little bit of labor! My parents were in town to watch Halle and everything went great...so much different than last time! I was even up out of bed later that night and walking by the next day.

Blair has been a pretty content baby besides the first couple of days after she was born when we were waiting for my milk to come in. Thankfully, we decided to supplement on the 3rd day and her mood changed dramatically! We came home with her on Monday, Nov. 26th so that we could all get some much needed sleep. My parents were here to help with Halle and I was so thankful for that. Halle actually did really well with being away from us for the first time and she has been nothing but loving towards Blair (though there has been a few more tantrums for us!).

I can't complain about Blair's sleeping through the night - she has been sleeping in 3 hour stretches (I have to wake her up to feed her every 3 hrs) and has been going right back down. In fact, last night, I forgot to set my alarm and she went 5 hours between feedings followed by another 4 and 3! She has been awake a lot today so I am hoping she has her days and her nights all figured out but I'm not holding my breath since I know things can change! Brandon's parents are now here helping us out and I am so thankful for the extra help. Thanks to them we have even managed a few outings with all of us - to Chuck E Cheese for Halle, to a Winter Carnival and even to church yesterday! I didn't think I would be out of the house by now at all considering with Halle, we weren't even out of the hospital! I am so thankful with how everything is going and feel so blessed to have two healthy kids.

COngrats! I am glad everything worked out so well and while your parents were here, what a blessing.

And also, with Max I was dying in pain when I was in labor and just at a 1! Seriously, I was vomiting and couldn't walk. But then with Sadie I was walking around at a 3 and had no idea. I think the pain level changes with various pregnancies, doesn't matter how far along you are, and you are not a wimp at all!
