We Finished!

We finished the race yesterday with help from Jared and Cassi. We really couldn't have done it without them. When we received the clue sheet, the first thing we did was to call each of them and solve all the clues so we could map out our route. We couldn't figure out clue #9 even with Cassi calling almost every bakery downtown (thanks Cassi) but we were able to skip one clue so we just skipped that one. It took longer this year to solve the clues but we didn't make any mistakes like last year and even caught some lucky breaks! We also jogged almost the whole way (thanks Allison for the encouragement...there was a couple of times I wanted to walk but she didn't let me which was great!). Allison also used her iphone and headphones to call Jared for help along the way which was really helpful. It was a warm day but at least it was sunny and not raining. Allison did a great job and I feel like I just followed her, so thanks Allison! We stayed around for the results ceremony since we thought we may have a chance to get in the top 25, which would qualify us for the National Race in New Orleans, but we came in 28th out of approximately 170 teams.. Oh well, that is much better than last year and we got a good workout and had a great time. Maybe next year others will want to join us?!? Any takers??

Here are the clues from this year's race:

1. Convert this phrase from Pig Latin to English and complete what is says to receive credit for this clue.

2. Make your way to the Minneapolos music club made famous by Prince in the movie Purple Rain. Take a picture of both teammates pointing at the silver star representing the band that has albums titled "Elephunk" and "Monkey Business." The star and the band must be clearly visible to receive credit for this clue.

3. Solve the following puzzle and do what is says to receive credit for this clue. (bunch of symbols...)

4. Make your way to Wheel Fun Rentals at the corner of W. Lake St. and E. Calhoun Pkwy. Each teammate must put on life jackets and canoe to the first buoy (A GUR staff member will be there to point it out) and back. Make sure to reutrn the canoe, life jackets and oars to the shoreline where you found it. Once completed, you must receive a stamp on this clue sheet from the GUR staff to receive credit for this clue.

5. Make your way to the Fairy Godmeother in Calhoun Square and count the number of butterflies you can see on the butterfly strans in the exterior display window. Count carefull and beware of one close to another! You must return to the finish line with the correct number of butterflies in the window. (Your answer must be within 3 butterflies to receive credit and it must be answered before you finish or you will not receive credit.) Your answer: ____

6. There is a delicious cookie waiting for your team at the Acadia Cafe on Cedar Ave. South. Take a picture of one teammate feeding the cookie to another teammate.

7. DETOUR (choose one of the following two options):
Take a picture of ten people total (including all teammates) under the larger-than-life Hard Rock Cafe guitar doing Molly Shannon's "Superstar" kneeling posde.

OR

Take a picture of six people total (including all teammates) in front of the pyramid aculpture outside the IDS Tower in a real 3-2-1 human pyramid as show to the picture to the right.

8. The Minnesota Literacy Council (MLS) in a nonprofit, statewide organization that provides literacy services to adults, children, volunteers and community programs around MN. Find them next to the Tin Fish on Lake Calhoun and donate at least on new pre-school age board book. To receive credit for this clue you must take a photo with the MLC staff in the GUR shirts donating the book.

9. Take a picture of all teammates in front of a sign that reads "for bread . cake . pastry." The sign must be clearly visible in the picture.

10. Take a picture of all teammates standing under the statue pictured to the right.

HINT: You can find the cross-streets of this location by taking the number of runs the MN Twins had against the New York Yankees in Wednesday's game (7/8/09) and the number of runs the Twins had in Tuesday's game (7/7/09).

11. Make your way to Nomad Pub and complete the bocce ball challenge waiting for you. Each teammate must roll the bocce balls from the center of the court until at least one ball hits the designated marker. Once at least one ball hits the marker, you must receive a stamp on this clue sheet from the GUR staff to receive credit for this clue. This clue is only available from 12:30-5. Strategize accordingly.

12. Find the "tuk-tuk" at Amazing Thailand and add up the four individual digits (__+__+__+__) on the front license plate. Take a picture of all teammates holding up this many fingers in front of the East-facing mural at Cal Surf & Sport.
