You all are probably wondering what happened after we had the bat in out apartment. Well, I had the maintenance man come and search our apartment for an hour and he could not find it...scary huh? He did fill in a couple of holes and that is how he thought the bat got it. However, every time I walked into our apartment after that, I wondered if a bat would come flying at me! It wouldn't have mattered if we got bit, though because both Brandon and I did end up getting the whole 5 series of shots for rabies.
Well, I no longer have to worry. This past weekend, two wasps got in our apartment and as we were looking for a nest outside, Brandon noticed what looked like a bat in a pipe outside of our apartment. Brandon concluded that it somehow got out and thought that it was outside, but couldn't get past the grate and died. (I included the picture down below of the bat, so if you don't want to see it, don't scroll down-there is a wasp on the dead bat in the picture) We also decided that was why we were smelling something weird every once in awhile on the east half of our apartment. So, I called the maintenance man again and sure enough, it was the dead bat and that was what we were smelling. We told him that we wanted everything cleaned out since Brandon has just learned about getting histoplasmosis from bat feces and I think that helped make sure that he cleaned everything. So we are now bat free!

Dead bat and that's that.
Good thing you had it cleaned it out. My youngest son had histo and had to have bunches of tests run. He has calcified places in his lungs and kidneys. Now when ever he sees birds or bats he says that he hates them because they made him sick. Quite cute.
I really enjoy reading your blog...keep up the stories.
