I woke up to breakfast in bed (chocolate chip pancakes - Brandon's specialty!) and flowers! I would have been happy if that was all he had done, but it didn't stop there. He had the whole day planned! He told me to put on athletic clothes so I thought we were going for a bike ride or something, but we didn't grab our bikes when we left so I was a little confused. It turns out, he had already packed the car with our bikes and put together backpacks with cold water and snacks in them, and he packed a new picnic blanket for us to eat lunch on. Everything was so thoughtful. And, a picnic blanket was a good traditional gift since the 2nd year is "cotton" (I got Brandon and personalized golf towel).
We drove to Fountain which is a little town about 25 minutes south of Rochester and parked our car there so that we could spend the whole day riding the Root River Trail. I had been wanting to go on this bike ride for a long time and we hadn't gotten the opportunity to do it, so I was super excited. We rode 11 miles, almost all down hill, in to the town of Lanesboro which is a very cute town. The path is very well known so there were a lot of bikers in Lanesboro as it is a central city along the bike trails. We got lunch at a sub shop and then ate it on our new picnic blanket. It was such a nice day and it felt good to relax!
Afterwards, we walked around the town a bit and I got a huge ice cream cone. We were going to eat dinner in Lanesboro, but decided that it would be easier to ride the 11 miles uphill back to Fountain before eating... So, we headed back to Fountain and got a great workout since it was almost all up hill! We rode a total of 22 miles in 2 hours (without including breaks)! We then drove back into Lanesboro and had a great dinner at a restaurant right next to the river. The dessert that we ordered was huge! When we got back into Rochester we went to a party at Tom's (one of Brandon's classmates). We had a great day and I felt so spoiled to get to do everything that I wanted to do. This was definitely my kind of day...I love being outside! Brandon did a great job planning the whole day and I couldn't have asked for a better anniversary!

Kristen,
That is my FAVORITE bike trail! How fun for you guys! Maybe Hans and I can join you sometime. We haven't had a chance to bike it this summer...we did it last year, though. One "local girl" piece of advice for you...drive to Lanesboro and start biking there, heading toward Preston. You miss the big huge hill and hit on one of the prettiest parts of the trail, I think.
Brandon - Thanks for setting the bar so high. I hope that Rachel forgets your ingenuity before our second anniversary!
Sounds like a great time!
Happy Anniversary!!! Brandon did a great job planning! What a fun day. I can't believe you rode that many miles on your bike- good job! And that dessert looks so YUMMY!!
You are practicing the secret of a beautiful, successful marriage.
The dessert was a well deserved reward (like a nap on a blanket).
Great job Brandon- what a fun day! Happy Anniversary!
What an awesome day! I have been on that trail, too, and remember the uphill :) That's great that Brandon FINALLY went with you-- I know you wanted to go for a while (great job planning, Mr. Yuan!) :)
Happy anniversary!

Happy Anniversary! Good job biking 22 miles in one day (and half of it was uphill, yikes!). Two thumbs up to Brandon for a thoughtful day, well planned out. :)
